We were in Kimpala, Uganda looking for some computer equipment to use for teaching an HIV/AIDS curriculum in the schools. As my husband was rushing down the street I hollered for him to stop because I noticed a small baby sitting on the sidewalk! He had not seen him because the baby was sitting in the shade of a sign with his hands cupped together in front of him begging for money. We stopped and talked to the store keepers in the area and were told this is common and the family was close by. Sure enough we gave the child money and some water to drink and soon two young girls came and the baby handed them the money and they drank some of the water. We eventually went on our way but never forgot about the baby!
