After speaking with missionaries from around the world, we realize how crucial the fundraising stage of a mission trip is!

One missionary, Becca, said “Fundraising is the first step of your mission trip… you learn to trust God as you prepare to go out and do His work.”

Here are a few creative fundraising ideas we have come across, and would love to share with you…

1. “Captured in HIS Image” Photo Contest

  • Every year www.missiontripinsurance.com hosts a missions photo contest open to anyone who wants to win money towards their next mission trip
  • First, second, and third place winners of the photo contest receive the following prize amounts for their submitted photos:  $750, $500, and $250
  • One great tip we have received over the past from participants of the photo contest… Look to see who voted for you! This is a great way to see who supports you in prayer, encourages your mission, and possibly would support you financially .. these are people you should approach and send them your travel journal link to keep them updated on your mission trips!

2. Create a Customized T-shirt and sell them for a donation

  • Cafepress.com & customlink.com are just a couple great sites where you can create a t-shirt
  • Try to create a shirt that is relevant to your mission trip or organization you’re traveling with or helping
  • Get pre-orders!
  • Ask for a $20 or more donation to receive a shirt (Don’t forget to cover the cost of the shirt in the minimum donation amount)
  • Consider putting your travel journal link on your T-shirt!

3. Make something to “sell” for a donation to your trip

  • Anything from chocolate covered pretzels, to cake pops, to friendship bracelets, or necklaces… the possibilities are endless
  • Ask for a minimum donation for the goods – don’t forget to build in the cost to make the goods into the minimum price
  • See if Craft-Fairs and local markets would waive the fee for a booth and “sell” there… great way to promote your organization or cause too! Bring marketing material or information about your trip

4. Create a YouTube video!

  • Introduce yourself and tell a little bit about your trip and how they can support you
  • YouTube will give you a link to the video – share that link on social media outlets and ask your friends & family to share as well
  • Post the YouTube link on your travel journal
  • MAKE IT FUN! Show your personality and passion for your mission trip!

5. Act of Service

  • Car wash
  • Snow shoveling
  • Yard Work
  • Babysitting
  • Endless possibilities!!!  Ask for donations towards your trip!!
